Luxology Reveals Technology and Development Roadmap
Future Plans for modo Integrate Modeling, Rendering and Animation
San Mateo, Calif.- August 3, 2005 - Luxology, LLC,
the creator of modo, presented the details of its product development
roadmap last night at a special event at the Orpheum Theater in Los
Angeles, Calif. The presentation included the announcement of modo
201, which expands the company’s flagship product beyond advanced
modeling to integrate modeling, painting and rendering. Luxology’s
roadmap also laid out aggressive plans for future modo releases that
integrate modeling, rendering and animation as well as provide customized
support for specific industries.
"Our product roadmap calls for modo to evolve into a comprehensive
3D design environment that entirely redefines intuitive and integrated
workflow," said Brad Peebler, president of Luxology. "This
means the 3D design community can feel confident in looking to modo
to go far beyond the frustrating limitations of the status quo – both
today and in the future."
Luxology cited its proprietary application development platform,
code named "Nexus," as responsible for many of the advances
previewed in the product roadmap. Nexus is a central platform within
which all of modo’s capabilities are developed. As new capabilities
are fully ready for production, new versions of modo are created or "baked" from
this integrated platform. This novel approach enables modo to deliver
a whole new level of workflow integration with reduced development
time and extremely competitive price points.
"While modo’s capabilities continue to grow, our goal
and value proposition will remain unchanged," said Brad Peebler. "modo
will always be about looking at 3D design from the designer’s
perspective. Our roadmap calls for modo to continue to deliver intuitive
advances – in big ways and small ways – that make 3D designers
wonder why they haven’t been able to work in a fluid, integrated
3D environment all along. The end result is the freedom to create
and work faster."
A history and summary of Luxology’s product roadmap is as
follows.
Phase 1: Nexus "Breadth" Development (2001-2003) -
This phase involved creating a framework for time variable media,
focusing on 3D content, to develop an integrated system for modeling,
rendering and animation.
Phase 2: Nexus Modeling "Depth" Development (2003-2004) -
This phase focused on proving the Nexus concept with the first application "bake".
The success of this first bake signaled the birth of modo on Sept.
27, 2004.
Phase 3: modo 201 and Linux (2005-2006) - This is where
Luxology is today, with the announcement and imminent availability
of modo 201, an integrated modeling, painting and rendering 3D design
environment. Phase 3 will also involve the announcement of Linux support
for modo.
Phase 4 and Beyond: The Future of modo (2005-2006) - modo’s
future promises a comprehensive modeling, rendering and animation
pipeline as well as industry-specific configurations. The fluid nature
of the core Nexus architecture allows Luxology to leverage a single
application architecture into multiple markets without sacrificing
focused specificity for the 3D designer.
