Today many artists are assembling a set of world class content creation tools and then using the combination of them for maximum advantage. You already know the power of XSI… consider adding modo. Many people find modeling with modo to be faster, particularly when tackling organic shapes. And we think you’ll find the UV editing power of modo to be a valuable addition to your toolset. And the 3D painting in modo is a real time saver. You can even configure modo to navigate just like XSI!
We have provided an example below to give you a hint as to how one artist added to his XSI workflow to create a combination that leverages the best of both packages.
William Lambeth modeled this model in modo and produced the super clean geometry that you see to the lower left. Then, he tapped the power of the mental ray renderer in SOFTIMAGE|XSI to create the visually stunning and emotive image of the Samburu warrior seen below. The model was used to test fascinating new facial animation technology from Image Metrics.

Additional Note from William:
The Samburu project started after I was reading a book on African warriors. At the time I wanted to learn XSI and it seemed like a good test to try and create something from this book. I quickly built the base mesh in modo using SubD's. At that point I had an excellent base mesh with good modeling "flow". All texturing was done in Zbrush. I then brought everything into XSI for render setup and production of the final image using mental ray.
Modo was a standout tool in the project. It has really won me over. In modo, I find I can consistently do things faster and easier. Not much else to say, getting the job done with an efficient toolset is all that matters to me!
